SOLANO'S WINE INDUSTRY HAS GROWING ECONOMIC IMPACT

Vineyards, bottlers, cork manufacturing, shipping and tourism--all are making Solano County a major player in California's wine industry.

While Napa and Sonoma counties continue to dominate the industry, Solano has slowly pushed its way into the picture as a growing wine industry entity.

The impact of Solano's wine industry will be discussed Thursday, Aug. 20th at the Fairfield Hilton Garden Hotel when Solano Economic Development Corporation sponsors a panel discussion on the industry and opportunities for future growth.

"Solano County provides major support functions that contribute to the success of Northern California's wine industry," Sandy Person, Vice President of Solano EDC said. "Not only do we have fine wineries, we also have bottling, corking, shipping and tourism segments that make us a key player."

Person said the county continues to grow as a wine industry, and he attributes a lot of it to the transportation access afforded by major freeways.

"Industry is discovering how convenient Solano is to the wine country of Napa-Sonoma, and how convenient we are to the Bay Area and Sacramento. These are critical elements for this industry."

The program, which begins at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, will feature:
- Ron Lanza, Wooden Valley Winery
- James Herwatt, Cork Supply
- Matt Schrap, California Trucking Association

This member breakfast is sponsored by; Pride Industries, Gaw Van Male & Sutter Health.
